In this article we are going to compare two things which have been used of strength performance athletes since forever.

The main reason to write everything bellow is, because it sits in my head since quite a while.

Before I start I would like to clear few things out:

#1 I am completely natural. I train and eat 100% naturally.
For the most part rely on whole foods for everything I do – (Physical and Mental Performance).

I do not use any forms of
supplements, stimulants or any form of other physical and cognitive enhancers besides:

Magnesium, Sodium, Zinc, Choline, Vitamin D and Calcium.

The only performance enhancer I use is:

Coffee.

And Yes!

I definitely use it a lot, but I do not drink any kinds of coffee.

So please do not get me wrong here . . .

I am not against trying new sorts of types, but for over 90% I try to stick with non toxic and mold free whole organic beans produced in rainforest coffee farms.

#2. In this article by “PEDS” I mean the anabolic steroids commonly used mostly in sports like:
Bodybuilding/ Physique and Power and Weight lifting.

#3. I developed this mindset for those two things after staying in ketosis for more than two and a half years and than doing certain experiments with some safe starches consumption.

#4. The conclusion I am about share with you in a moment is based on my personal experience.

I know a lot of people have similar results, but also a lot of other don’t, so this is not one size fits all situation.

Everything varies for each and every individual.
Here I think is the right place to sneak the fact that:

I train a lot.
I do love bodybuilding and Fitness.
They do have huge part in my heart and life on the daily basis.

I see this as a really important detail needs to be pointed out, because it most definitely influences my perspective for the things.

In the end of day I see all of them benefits or side effects from the point of view of a hard training individual.

In other words I most definitely think . . .

All of the benefits may exist as such only in a situation where we have an individual who have a lifestyle similar to mine.

Lifestyle in which those activities are invariable part

I do believe Carbs are NO NO for people with sedentary lifestyle or ones who suffer from obesity or other illnesses.

So keep that in mind . . .

The main part . . .

Users or not we all probably know PEDS have been here since forever.

The main reason they have been so popular and common for either professional athletes is the fact they do produce results.

They give the ability of individual to train harder, heavier with shorter rest periods.

They create more of an anabolic environment in the human bodies.
Higher testosterone levels, better absorption of nutrients and ability to recover faster and quicker from very intense and both taxing to the body and nervous system workouts.

This is what they do.

They enhance.
They enhance the user’s ability to perform.

Yes.
They can do all that.

But there is no free lunch .

Even if obvious for a lot I would like to point out that with all of the good stuff, benefits and improvements come a lot of negative side effects.

Here I am not going to get into details, because as I mentioned I am not a user nor someone who is interested in to becoming one.

So maybe that automatically makes you think of me as a person who’s statement is non accurate by any means.

If so I highly respect your opinion and I completely understand it.

I think you have really good point and I would suggest to read something else, because I definitely do not want to waste anybody’s time.

And . . .
If you are interested in finding what are the most common side effects of the steriods use I would highly recommend you to simply google them out.

Carbohydrates:

After staying on a modified version of the Vince Gironda’s Steaks and Eggs diet for almost two and a half years and already been adapted to

OMAD
(One Meal A Day)

For almost an year.
During this period of time I did not have any carbohydrates, besides those from the full fat dairy products I’ve consumed.
Their total amount never exceeded 30 /40 gr. per day.

After this completely ketogenic stage of my life, I took a decision to improvising by adding some of the lately gaining popularity so called :

Safe Starches.

I still experiment with some of them till this day, but for the most part I came up with a conclusion.
I feel like for the first time I developed and exact idea of how carbohydrates actually work.
So without further a do I would like to just say it:

To a relatively big extend I believe:

Carbohydrates are most definitely performance enhancement drug.

I know it may sounds, really inappropriate and probably even goofy, but please let me explain you why I feel this way by giving you several arguments based on facts and common and not seen reactions.

Fact #1
Carbohydrates are non essential macronutrient.
We do not need them.
We have Essential Fatty and Amino Acids.
If somehow any form of glucose is needed our bodies have the amazing ability to produce on it’s own.
One of the most known processes of this is called
Gloconeogenesis.

It is based on converting proteins into sugars /glucose.

With that been said carbs ain’t really a food.

Fact #2
The preferential and most essential energy source of the human bodies is not the glucose, Ketone units are.
They are fat converted into fuel.
Dietary or already stored.

Fact #3
Just because humans can survive on carbs does not mean they do well on them.

Fact #4
The consumption of probably over 90% carbohydrates in the markets increases the risk of diseases such as:
Diabetes, Tumors, Obesity and others.

Fact #5
When there is virtually no carbohydrates in the body the only cell that stop it’s growth is the one of the most deadliest disease.

Reactions:
Keep in mind that I speak mostly about the toxins and arsenic free white basmati rice.

The best choice of carb source for me.
I think the reason for this is because is probably the most clean form of resistant starch available in the stores.

Without a single drop of doubt I can easily say that :
There is noticeable difference on how my body handles the basmati rice when comparing with other starches or veggies.

Somehow It simply tolerates, digests and absorbs it a lot better.
Even as a huge keto fan and practitioner
I can not stretch about this.

When I consume it happens that the rice always produces the full package of

Benefits.

When I rely mostly on glycogen I am able to:

*Lift heavier weights.

*
Do longer workouts.

*
Stay a lot dryer, fuller and even leaner.

*My vascularity becomes really defined.

* I am able to grow more muscle.

* I feel better recovery.

Truth to be told . . .

As long For the gym and strength performance I feel carbs are incomparably useful tool.

I definitely see them as something like :

Rocket Fuel.

It may sounds weird but when on carbs I feel like my body simply want to look and perform at its best.

Since I am fairly tall 6’3 around 200lbs 6/10 % body fat.

I have relatively hard time growing muscle.
The way of training which I found really helps is the high volume resistant training.
I found this gives me the ability to throw a lot more blood into the muscle and target every area from every possible angle.

Since a gram of carbs retains between 2.7 to 3 grams of water.
I feel because of this pumps are a lot better.

Carbohydrates allow me to drive more water, oxygen and blood which means a lot more of the amino and fatty acids go straight to my muscle cell.

This of course means a lot more of the vitamins and the minerals.

I am big on red meat for it’s higher protein, creatine and vitamin B12 Content.
In my personal opinion it should be staple in many trainees diets.

I do believe B12 is vital for better muscle growth and recovery.

When combine the beef with with rice I feel I absorb every single macro and micronutrient a lot more effectively.

So I think those are enough and you already got the Idea

Side effects:
Now the other part of the things.
Besides the basmati rice probably over 90 percent of the carbs out there give me side effects.

All of the side effects are different with each carb, but for the most part there are few common:

Increased anxiety.
Depression.

Bad Mood.

Inability to kick ass and get stuff done.
Negative outlook about everything.

Doubt about my personal achievement and success.
(this one is crucial)

You may or may not find some of these familiar, but in the end of the day I definitely see Carbohydrates as some form of Performance enhancers.

Everything depends on the situation, individual and a lot other key factors.

With this article do not try to encourage you to do nothing besides maybe learn something useful from my experience. This is the main reason why I wrote it.
I hope you find it helpful.

Thank You For Your Time
Until Next Time.
